If you see the warning in your email from Backblaze: “Storage Cap Reached 75%”. It means the backups of your SelfPrivacy server are using more than 75% of the free storage space (>7.5GB). You will get this email every day. If the free storage is full, backups won’t be possible.
You can fix this problem in two ways:
-
(Recommended) Add a payment method to Backblaze. Paying for services is normal, especially when storage costs only $0.005 per GB/month. This will stop the warnings, and you will pay for extra storage beyond the free 10GB. You can set a limit, like $1 per day ($30 a month for 5TB), to avoid unexpected charges. You can do this in B2 Cloud Storage → Caps & Alerts.
-
Delete unnecessary files from SelfPrivacy. In the SP App, go to “Server → Server Storage” to see which app is using the most space, and therefore, taking up the most space in your backups. In my case, it’s NextCloud, and I can just delete large files.
Of course there are service providers with more free storage, but we try to avoid bigtech (AWS/CGP/etc). Maybe in the future, we’ll add other s3-like service providers. One of them is under consideration Tebi | European Alternatives. We would also welcome your suggestions for service providers.
How is the backup storage disc overflow issue handled now? I saw a bug in the chat, it should be made more informative with the hints from this post.
